Young Frankenstein, I know you all have seen it.  Probably multiple times.  For many it may even be one of the funniest films of all time.  How many of you?

Well, I decided to share it with my kids, but as circumstances turned out, it was just me and Clara.  Which is too bad because I think Felix would have liked it, and who knows, Clara might have liked it even more with him.

My reaction:  Gene Wilder = fantastic.  Gene Wilder at his best, is he not as funny as almost any other comedic actor of all times?  He and Mel Brooks co-wrote the screenplay for Young Frankenstein, and as great as the cinematography, direction, and overall cast are, Gene Wilder is the best.  Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman.  All fantastic.  The cinematography and set design are excellent, utterly capturing the style of the Universal horror films it sends up.

Ultimately, it’s the gags: Igor’s moving hump, the bookcase spinning scene, the “Puttin’ on the Ritz” musical number, the most weird and sublime thing in a film with carefully timed and perfectly executed gags.  It’s damn funny.

I remember watching the film with my father.  He loved the film.  Oddly, as effusive as I might sound here, I would say that I really, really like it.  I think it’s very well-done and very funny.  And I think that Gene Wilder is a little too unsung of a comic genius.

Clara liked Igor the best.  Which I can relate to.  Marty Feldman.  Very funny.
