director Xan Cassavetes
Beautiful vampires in love, having sex. There was a time not all too long ago that this wasn’t such the most overdone genre and style afoot. Really, considering TV’s True Blood, I am not entirely sure the compelling necessity of something like this.
Kiss of the Damned is written and directed by Xan Cassavetes, John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands’ daughter, who previously made the very interesting documentary Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession (2004).
It’s got a very nice poster.
It channels, or tries to channel some movies of the 1960’s or 1970’s, maybe like Jean Rollin or Jess Franco or something? Hard to say. It’s pretty enough, as are its vampires. But it’s not very compelling. It’s going to be one of those kinds of films that I imagine that I’ll forget whether I saw it or even any specific moments of it within a year or two. Which is kind of disappointing.
Because the poster is nice.
