director Michael Findlay
After watching The Snow Creature (1954), I felt obliged to create a yeti double feature out of this night and toss on Shriek of the Mutilated to do so. 20 years and God knows what else separates these two movies about abominable snowmen. This one was made by Michael and Roberta Findlay (about whom a documentary should doubtlessly be made) and Ed Adlum (Invasion of the Blood Farmers (1972)).
Shriek of the Mutilated is weird from the word go. From the title. From the poster. To the very opening of the film. To the strange folks brought on board as the cast. Now, for those for whom weird is a good word, this film might be considered bedrock fun.
What really cements the weirdness is the bizarre twist that the film takes (I actually recommend Claire’s wonderful review over at Letterboxd for more detail on this bizarre twist. She nails it. In fact, she nails it so well that I won’t even venture further on the story.)
