director Brian Yuzna
Brian Yuzna’s Society is a great parallel with John Carpenter’s They Live as pop horror/science fiction as social critique. Clearly, Society moves into more psychological weirdness and body horrors up the nigh literal yin-yang, whereas They Live‘s cheesy silliness belies a most spot-on skewering of cultural elites and the facade of normality under which we once lived.
Social criticism: C+
Surreal crazy gross-out effects, ideas, and designs: A+
Final grade: B+
