Best Films of 2016

Kennelco Film Diary Best Movies of 2016

Ever it seems my retrospect finds shortcomings in the movie year.  2016 was not unique that way.

I’ll keep it short.  I broke the list up differently this year.  New movies, new old movies, and great re-watches.

Weiner was the stand-out of new movies, I thought. Surprisingly hilarious slow-motion self-destruction and painfully potent moments all on camera.  Also, Green Room shows that Jeremy Saulnier is one of the most promising young writer/directors out there.

As for older films that I’d never seen, Gold Diggers of 1933 was a favorite.  Busby Berkeley. A must-see.  Also, I discovered Daughter of Horror (a.k.a. Dementia), pulp indie pop noir Surrealism and horror. Absolutely wonderful and bizarre.

Here’s to a better 2017.
